PhD Position in Astroparticle Physics

The DArk Matter, AStroparticles and COsmology (DAMASCO) group at the Theoretical Physics Department and the Institute fr Theoretical Physics (IFT UAM-CSIC) of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid invites applications for a PhD position.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with interest in astroparticle physics, broadly defined. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Rafael Alves Batista and Dr. Miguel Sánchez-Conde on searches for axion-like particles (ALPs) using gamma rays. Good programming skills are desirable.

This 3-year position is funded by the “la Caixa” Foundation as part of the project “Multimessenger Probes of the High-Energy Universe”, led by Dr. Rafael Alves Batista (LCF/BQ/PI21/11830030), and by “Particles, Astroparticles and Dark Matter in the Universe”, led by Dr. Miguel Sánchez-Conde (PID2021-125331NB-I00).

Interested applicants should submit:

  • CV
  • names and contact information of at least two referees
  • motivation letter (optional)

For full consideration, please submit all requested materials before November 2nd.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
The starting date is negotiable, but preference will be given to qualified candidates who can start immediately or before December 15.

More details about this position are available here.

DAMASCO’s current main research interests encompasses several aspects of astroparticle physics, including high-energy gamma-ray, neutrinos, and cosmic-ray astrophysics; indirect searches for dark matter; numerical cosmological simulations; multi-messenger astronomy. Group members are part of the Fermi-LAT Collaboration, the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) Consortium, the Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) Collaboration, the Global Cosmic-Ray Observatory (GCOS) Collaboration, and the Dark-Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Collaboration.
